Oxplore will be the name of Oxford’s digital outreach portal. We think it evokes the idea of exploring beyond the curriculum as well as nodding to the University of Oxford, and our logo design reflects how questions are at the heart of our exploration. We think it is striking and bold, yet easily understandable. Our strapline, ‘Home of Big Questions’ reinforces an important aspect of our content structure.
We conducted extensive testing. We talked about our name and brand with around 60 young people aged between 11 and 17. Oxplore performed well right across our age range. They felt it ‘suggested more in-depth learning’, was ‘catchy and easy to remember’ and ‘gets the point across and is self-explaining’. All of these are obviously very desirable qualities for us. In the end, it was a very clear winner.
Our name and logo will be combined with other aspects of our visual identity, including the page designs for the portal. We’re looking forward to sharing more on this soon.
